2 The Business Newsletter of South Ribble Borough Council The world’s first ever truck trail has motored into Leyland to inspire future engineers and to champion British truck manufacturing. Thirteen 6ft trucks celebrating the town’s 120-year manufacturing history snake from the railway station to Worden Park as part of the interactive trail. The pieces are all designed around an iconic vehicle produced by Leyland Trucks and boast names including ‘Super Hippo’, ‘The Comet’ and ‘Military Martian’. Councillor Peter Mullineaux, leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: “The idea for the trail is absolutely fantastic – a dream for Leyland. “Truck manufacturing is right at the very heart of the fabric of the town and sewn into its heritage. “We’re hoping to draw crowds from far and wide – offering a boost to the town and supporting our local businesses. “We also hope to inspire a future generation with a full educational package which will run alongside the display. The designs will capture the imagination of children of all ages – even the big kids amongst us!” The trail has its own app to allow people following it to scan the trucks for more information and see a video on their significance. Each has been sponsored by a local business, who get to keep the models once the trail ends in September. These include Abrams Ashton, C & W Berry and J & J Ashcroft Truck Trail is a public and private sector project. Shane Friend, managing director of Leyland marketing firm Stone Create, said: “The official unveiling of the Truck Trail was one of the proudest days of my life. To see Truck Trail come to life was incredibly rewarding.” Town Keeps on Truckin’ for World’s First INVEST IN SOUTH RIBBLE INSPIRING FUTURE GENERATIONS Welcome to the South Ribble Business Newsletter South Ribble offers: TO FIND OUT MORE CONTACT OUR ENTERPRISE TEAM T: 01772 625567 E: info@businessinsouthribble.com W: businessinsouthribble.com LOCATION A great place to do business VALUE Fantastic value for money for investors CHOICE A great choice of highly accessible business premises SKILLS Access to a range of specialist skills to meet your business needs The Bull
