Improvement work and road closures at the B5253 Flensburg Way

Apr 04, 2016

Work on the A582 to improve the junction at Flensburg Way and Penwortham Way, Farington ('Tank' roundabout), is now well underway. Lancashire County Council began improvements last year to add capacity to the A582 and reduce delays on this key route in and out of Preston. The upgrading of the A582 is one of the four major road schemes included in the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.

So far, work has predominantly been carried out to the east of the roundabout.  Work will soon enter a new phase which will involve completion of the carriageway construction and surfacing works on the B5253 Flensburg Way, between the 'Tank' roundabout and Longmeanygate.

In order to carry out these works safely and effectively, daytime and night time temporary road closures will be put in place as follows:

9pm Fri 15 April - 8pm on Thu 21 April

  • One way restriction to traffic on the B5253 Flensburg Way in a southbound direction i.e. northbound will be unrestricted.

8pm Thu 21 April - 6am Fri 22 April

  • Full closure on B5253 Flensburg Way (both directions).

6am Fri 22 April – 8pm Fri 22 April

  • One way restriction to traffic on the B5253 Flensburg Way in a southbound direction i.e. northbound will be unrestricted.

 8pm Fri 22 April - 6am Sat 23 April

  • Full closure on B5253 Flensburg Way (both directions).

6am Sat 23 April - 9pm Sat 23 April (until the works are complete)

  • One way restriction to traffic on the B5253 Flensburg Way in a southbound direction i.e. northbound will be unrestricted.

The road closures may be lifted for short periods of time, depending on sequencing and progress of the work.

Whilst the work is being carried out, traffic will be diverted via Longmeanygate, Golden Hill Lane, Station Brow, Preston Road, Stanifield Lane, Farington Road and the A582 Flensburg Way. Additionally, two-way temporary traffic signals will be in operation on the 'Tank' roundabout, which will allow us to maintain control of the traffic at this location.

We have tried to minimise the impact of the works as far as possible, by scheduling the majority of the work during the Easter holidays. We will also be making adjustments to the timings on existing traffic light junctions on the road and providing manual control to the temporary traffic lights.

We apologise in advance for the expected severe disruption to traffic as well as inconvenience to local residents and businesses during both day and night time hours.  Please be assured that we will keep this to an absolute minimum. This necessary work will help improve journey times in the longer term and we are grateful for your patience during this time.
